In the United States, diners and drive-ins are a staple in many people’s hearts. Nestled in corners of the cities or popping up as an oasis on a long stretch of driving towards your destination, diners are special places that provide comfort for any time of the day. The first thing that draws your attention is the distinct neon sign, shining brightly in the evenings when you are craving a warm plate of pancakes and eggs. As you step in, the greasy smell of bacon and the smokey scent of unlimited coffee refills blasts you in the face with a punch of nostalgia.
As a kid, one may remember diners as places that offer indulgences such as French toast ladened with maple syrup, or the sweet taste of a chocolate milkshake, with two straws. As we grow older, we can’t help but gravitate towards the homey environment of diners as places to reconnect with loved ones and reminisce on pleasant memories spent with families. A diner is a place that welcomes everyone regardless of class and status. Arguments and disagreements can be set aside in front of a hearty plate of breakfast at 8:00 pm.
