Blackwing, a pencil loved by creators around the world, and TRAVELER’S COMPANY have collaborated on a new capsule collection.
Blackwing’s roots can be traced back to the 1930s in the United States. The creators of the foundation of American literature, music, and animation, including novelist John Steinbeck, known for “The Grapes of Wrath” and “East of Eden”; Leonard Bernstein, composer and conductor of “West Side Story”; and cartoonist Chuck Jones, who created characters such as Bugs Bunny, have all been known users of Blackwing pencils. The pencil with the unique rectangular eraser are now seen as iconic tools used by creators of works that formed the foundation of American literature, music, and animation.
For many years, the pencil was loved by many for its high-quality writing experience with an easy-to-erase rectangular eraser. After several corporate acquisitions, production was discontinued in 1998. However, it was reissued by PALOMINO in 2010, as it was still sought after by enthusiastic fans. To create the best pencil, Blackwing sought out the world’s best core and wood, landing on the use of genuine incense-cedar and premium Japanese graphite in this revival. In addition, Blackwing continues to create new value for pencils, while communicating culture through “limited editions” and collaborations that are released on a regular basis.
In this collaboration, Blackwing, which makes pencils for writing, meets TRAVELER’S COMPANY, which makes notebooks for being written on.
TRAVELER’S COMPANY has produced a collaboration collection of TRAVELER’S notebook, refill, and charm. TRAVELER’S notebook has a black leather cover with gold foil stamping designed to look like a Blackwing pencil held together by an elastic band. The refill is letterpress printed and foil-stamped to look like pencils that change length as they are used. In addition, a charm featuring a Blackwing pencil stub that is used up to the very end will be available.
Blackwing has produced a collaboration model pencil in a two-tone color theme. Half of the pencil’s shaft is black, while the other half is solid wood finish. Both brand names are engraved in gold. The pencils also come with an eraser in the collaboration’s theme color, blue. A special cap, Point Guard, is also available so that the pencil can be easily taken along on a trip. This cap has a blue body and the original logo designed for the collaboration is printed on the top.
These collaboration items will be available at TRAVELER’S FACTORY Nakameguro, Airport (Narita Airport), Station (Tokyo Station), Kyoto, and official online store in Japan and at Blackwing official online store in the US from July 17.
In addition, this collaboration will be sold at various physical events hosted by TRAVELER’S COMPANY USA, starting with the Pacific Northwest Pen Show on July 13, followed by Sketcher Fest Edmonds, San Francisco International Pen Show 2024, while supplies last. This collection not be available on the TRC USA Online Shop.
We hope that the harmony between the two brands that make pencils and notebooks will help people discover the joy of analog expression.
